An itinerary of art and history, but also of great atmosphere: shady cloisters, arcaded passages, churches and towers that delimit the horizon and the imposing pyramid of Monviso that stands behind.

Our tour starts fromStaffarda Abbey, fascinating place of faith where you can admire the church and the splendid cloister, the guesthouse, the chapter room and where we will meet the curious colony of bats that found a home here.

The visit continues in Medieval Saluzzo (about 12 km from Staffarda, reachable by own means), starting from Castile and through the stalls, you stop in the architectural jewels of the city, from the Church of San Giovanni, to Casa Cavassa to the house of Silvio Pellico up to "dark arcades" that mark the limit of the historic center.

Lunch typical in a tavern.

The afternoon continues with Manta Castle, FAI property which houses the famous baronial hall, the highest example of international Gothic.

Overnight in Saluzzo and deluxe dinner , with a menu of wines paired with the dishes.

The second day is dedicated to automatic visits: the Muse card , "Musei Saluzzo" included in the price, gives you access to the extraordinary museums and collections of Castile, the symbolic place of Saluzzo, on the top of the hill; Civic Museum Casa Cavassa, a charming Renaissance villa, opens its doors in the heart of the historic center, the Matteo Olivero picture gallery and the climb to the top of the Civic Tower offer great emotions! In the afternoon we are waiting for you in the hills, to tell you another story of our land: the one linked to the production of the precious Pelaverga wine from the Saluzzesi Hills. Here a visit to the cellar and a visit await you special tasting , with wines paired with typical zero-km products.

L'ABBAZIA DI STAFFARDA

Founded between 1122 and 1138 on the territory of the ancient Marquisate of Saluzzo, the Benedictine Cistercian Abbey had reached in a few decades a considerable economic importance as a place of collection, transformation and exchange of the products of the surrounding countryside, made fertile by the monks with extensive and complex remediation works. The economic importance had brought civil and ecclesiastical privileges to the abbey which made it the reference of the political and social life of the territory.
In 1690 the French, led by General Catinat, invaded the Abbey, destroying the archive, the library, part of the cloister and the refectory; from 1715 to 1734, with the financial help of Vittorio Amedeo II, restoration works were carried out.
With the Papal Bull of Pope Benedict XIV, in 1750, the Abbey and its assets became the property of the Order of SS. Maurizio and Lazzaro, and erected in the Commenda.
