PROGRAM
1st day:
meeting of the participants in Vinadio where free parking is available and ascent along the Vallone di Riofreddo-Valle Stura to the Malinvern refuge at 1836 m above sea level. Dinner and overnight stay (difference in altitude 300 m, travel time 1 hour and 30 ').
2nd day:
after breakfast, our tour officially begins in the protected area of the Parco delle Alpi Marittime, the largest in Piedmont. Going up to the Passo del Lupo and after the Bassa del Drous, you go around the Testa di Malinvern (also known as Monte Malinvern - 2939 m) and through the basin of the Vallescura and Claus lakes you reach the refuge of the Valasco valley. Dinner and overnight stay (total altitude difference 1000 m, 6 hours walk).
3rd day:
after breakfast, after passing the Colletto del Valasco, crossing the splendid lakes of Fremamorta, descend to Pian della Casa to go up through the Vallone di Assedras to the Remondino refuge, at the foot of Monte Argentera (3297 m), the main peak of the Maritime Alps. Dinner and overnight stay (total altitude difference 1400 m, travel time 7 hours).
4th day:
the environment becomes decidedly alpine, dotted with lakes and small glaciers. After breakfast we face the ascent to Colle del Brocan (2892 m) and subsequent descent to the Genova refuge. A last short climb leads to the Fenestrelle Pass and the Soria refuge. Dinner and overnight stay (900 m of total altitude difference, 6 hours of walking).
5th day:
breakfast. Monte Gelas, also known as Cima dei Gelas, on the border between Italy and France, with its 3143 m of height is known as the "Mont Blanc of the Maritime Alps", covered with perennial snow until late in the season. This stage passes the Passo dei Ghiacciai, a nodal point between the perennial glaciers of Gelas and Malivern, to lead through a spectacular path-balcony to the Pagarì Refuge. Dinner and overnight stay (difference in altitude 1300 m, total travel time 7 hours).
6th day:
the departure from Rifugio Pagarì leads directly to the small glacier of Muraion, along which you reach the Passo di Pagarì and, after a short descent, the summit of Monte Clapier (3045 m is the three thousandth mountain of the highest alpine arc in the Maritime Alps, just 40 km from the sea: from this peak the view sweeps from the Cote d'Azur, to the island of Montecristo, from Corsica to the entire western Alps with the peaks of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa). Descent to Refuge Nice, wedged between the mighty rocky bastions and the alpine lakes. Dinner and overnight stay (difference in altitude 500 m, total travel time 5 hours).
7th day: after breakfast from the refuge, climb to Pas de la Fous and then to the nearby eastern col of Clapier (2862 m). The last descent of the tour winds along the beautiful east Clapier glacier which with its waters feeds the beautiful white lake of Agnel. From this the descent continues to San Giacomo di Entracque in the Alta Valle Gesso where the tour ends (difference in height 700, total distance 6 hours).
